Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. FSSAI is the regulatory body responsible for regulating and supervising the safety of food products in India.

The main objectives of FSSAI include:

1. Setting standards for food products: 

FSSAI establishes standards for the quality and safety of food products to ensure that they are safe for consumption.

2. Licensing and registration of food businesses:
 
FSSAI issues licenses and registrations to food businesses, such as manufacturers, distributors, and retailers, and ensures compliance with food safety regulations.

3. Monitoring and surveillance: 

FSSAI conducts regular inspections in the market to ensure that the prescribed standards are being maintained while preparing food products and are safe for consumption.

4. Consumer awareness: 

FSSAI carries out activities creating awareness among consumers about food safety and hygiene practices such as by providing information on labels, promoting healthy eating habits, and educating the public about the importance of food safety.

5. Scientific research and development: 

FSSAI is also involved in undertaking research and development activities related to food safety.
